A Dignified Way to Be Crazy Eddie

Posted by: By Tom Woods | December 14, 2016

Three months ago, Eddie Antar died.

Never heard of him, you say. But if you lived through the 1980s, as I did, you do know him.

He was Crazy Eddie. His prices were “insane”!

Crazy Eddie shouted and flailed about, letting you know all about his deals. You can find his old commercials on YouTube. He became a phenomenon. And very rich. (He later wound up in federal prison, but that’s another story.)

I loved his commercials as a kid. I thought: this guy must be rich. And he was.

Still, that selling style isn’t for me. I prefer something a little less flamboyant, a little more restrained. Just as in-your-face as Crazy Eddie, but more methodical, more take-it-or-leave-it, more no matter how much you beg, this offer ain’t coming back.

Kind of like a clock. A cold, relentless clock that ticks without mercy, until the offer disappears.

Kind of like this:
