The Most Important Thing the Laptop Lifestyle Gives You — And It Isn’t Money

It’s power.

I have no boss. I make my own decisions. I make my own hours. And every day, I wake up knowing exactly what I need to do to generate income for the family.

I had a chance yesterday to talk to Ben Settle, whom I look up to and learn from when it comes to email copywriting. The first episode of his new podcast was all about power.

Last year Ben started a wildly successful membership site. I myself was a member. But he decided he hated doing it, so he simply shut it down.

He had been so successful in his other endeavors that he was able to look at a pile of money, decide it wasn’t worth the hassle, and just walk away.

That’s power.

At this point in my life, I no longer have to do anything I hate. I no longer have to run myself ragged flying all over the country and leaving my family behind.

Someone can approach me with a lucrative idea, but if I hate it, I can say no.

That’s power.

Every day I see all these people performing menial jobs. These are perfectly honorable jobs. They provide a service that people need. But in the grand scheme of things, these jobs are wasting these people’s lives away.

There are countless ways people can make a much more comfortable living online. But they don’t know about it. Or they know but don’t have the guts to try. Or they’ve convinced themselves that success doesn’t happen to people like them, so they stay in their inertia.

I’ve been talking a lot about creating websites for local businesses, an obvious business idea if I ever heard one. And I have the perfect platform for non-techies to use. It’s got ready-made templates for scores of different kinds of businesses. Not rocket science at all. We covered it in our recent workshop.

It really is a perfect business idea. It’s a great side hustle, it’s a great primary business, and for that matter it’s a great business for a teenager.

You can’t seriously want your teenager working at a checkout counter. That’s a mind-numbing waste of time.

Here’s something that teaches a valuable, income-generating skill, not to mention the ability to work with and please others.

You know these businesses need your service. And no one else is going to take the initiative to give it to them.

What’s in it for you? Every additional income stream you generate yourself is that much more power you have to live the life you want — to say yes to what you want, and no to what you don’t want.
